About Us

Welcome to Tharagay African News

At Tharagay African News, we believe Africa’s stories deserve to be told with depth, accuracy, and pride. Founded in the heart of East Africa, we are dedicated to bringing you reliable, insightful, and timely coverage of the continent’s most important developments — from the bustling markets of Lagos to the quiet villages of the Drakensberg, and from the tech hubs of Kigali to the political corridors of Pretoria.

What We Do

Our mission is simple: to inform, engage, and empower. We go beyond headlines to deliver context, analysis, and human perspective. Whether it’s a breaking political shift, an economic policy with far-reaching consequences, or a cultural movement reshaping identities, we strive to present the full picture — without bias, without sensationalism, and without silence.

Topics We Cover

We focus on the issues that matter most to Africans and those who care about Africa:

  • Political developments and governance across all 54 nations
  • Economic trends, trade, and investment opportunities
  • Cultural heritage, arts, and societal change
  • Technological innovation and digital transformation
  • Sustainable development and environmental progress
  • Human interest stories that highlight resilience and innovation

About the Creator

Tharagay African News was founded by Elisa Mirembe, a journalist and storyteller with over a decade of experience covering African affairs. Born in Uganda and based in Nairobi, Elisa has reported from over 20 African countries, witnessing firsthand the power of informed journalism to drive change. She created Tharagay because she saw a need for a platform that didn’t just report on Africa — but listened to it, reflected its diversity, and honored its complexity.

Why This Website Exists

Too often, Africa is portrayed through a narrow lens — as a continent of crises, not of creativity; of aid, not of agency. Tharagay was born to challenge that narrative. We exist to amplify African voices, to spotlight solutions alongside challenges, and to give readers the tools to understand Africa not as a monolith, but as a dynamic, evolving continent of 54 unique nations and countless communities.

Our Values

Our work is guided by three core principles:

  • Accuracy — Every fact is verified, every source credited.
  • Balance — We present multiple perspectives without false equivalence.
  • Respect — We honor the dignity of every person and community we write about.

We do not chase clicks. We chase truth. And we believe that good journalism is not a luxury — it’s a necessity.
